Some highlights of the September 2009 Celebration

I. THE IMAGES OF INA AND DIVINO ROSTRO

The New Andas

The new andas of Our Lady of Penafrancia and Divino Rostro will be used for the first time during this year’s Penafrancia Festivities. The height of the new andas is 4.2 meters with a diameter of 3 meters. It weighs 1, 422 kilos.

Cofradia de San Jose and Guardias de Maria

The Cofradia de San Jose (Voyadores) has been organized in the different parishes in the 11 vicariates of the Archdiocese of Caceres. To date, 2, 348 members of the Cofradia de San Jose have undergone formation. After the basic formation, the trained members of the cofradia from the four districts of Caceres will meet on the first week of September for the final instructions.

From the Cofradia de San Jose, the parish priests will choose the “ Guardias de Maria.” The Honor Guards of Ina or Guardias de Maria are the able-bodied voyadores who will be responsible in taking care of the sacred image of INA during the traslacion and fluvial processions.

II. PROCESSIONS

Divino Rostro Pilgrimages

The Divino Pilgrimages from September 2-11, 2009 will be participated in by Naga City parishes and pilgrims from the parishes of Carolina, Gainza, Milaor, Canaman and Camaligan. The pilgrimages will be done by way of a penitential procession at 4:00 am to the Basilica Minore where they will celebrate mass with the community.

Traslacion

The traslacion procession will go back to its original route, from the Penafrancia Shrine to the Cathedral on September 11, 2009. The new order of traslacion procession has been organized to give more time to students and religious organizations to join the procession. Thus, the traslacion will begin as early as 9:00am after the mass with the students heading the procession to the Naga Cathedral. The Traslacion will be aired live nationwide by the National Broadcasting Network - NBN 4.

Dawn Processions

Penitential dawn processions will be held at 3:30 am on the following dates and route: [1] September 17, 2009 (route: Naga West); [2] September 18, 2009 (route: South Downtown area; [3] September 19, 2009 (route: Naga north).

Perdon Processions

Perdon processions with the Divino Rostro will be from September 14 – 16, 2009 at 10:00 pm. The priests of Bikol will be participating in the nightly perdon processions. A Vigilia de Espigas, the night prayer vigil will also be held at the Cathedral on September 18, 2009 at 9:00 pm.

Fluvial Procession

The boarders of the pagoda for the fluvial procession will be regulated according to the master list that has been prepared by the central committee. The boarders will be invited by the central committee and will be given an official ID with picture. Only 180 persons will be allowed to board the pagoda. The 7 dioceses of Bikol will have 10 representatives each on the pagoda. Bikol bishops will also be on the pagoda. Pagoda slots are non-transferable. The grand fluvial celebration will be at 3:00 pm on September 19, 2009 and will be concluded by a Pontifical Mass at the Basilica Pavilion at 6:00 pm.

III. THE MASS

Confessions

Confessions will be available for all pilgrims from September 2 – 18, 2009. Priests will be available for confessions at the Basilica at 4:30 pm during the novena of the Divino Rostro. During the novenary masses in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia at the Naga Cathedral, priests will be available for confessions at the arches of the Minor Seminary from 3:00 – 7:00 pm daily from September 12 – 18, 2009. During the traslacion, confessions will be held from 1:30 – 4:30 pm at the Cathedral grounds.

Novenary Masses

Novenary masses will be held from September 2 -11, 2009 in honor of the Divino Rostro and from September 11-19, 2009 in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia.

New Penafrancia Novena

The new novena will be used during the novena in honor of Our Lady of Penafrancia.

Healing Masses

Healing masses will be held daily from September 14 -18, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the following churches: September 14, 2009 (Immaculate Conception Parish, Concepcion); September 15, 2009 (Penafrancia Shrine); September 16, 2009 (Naga Cathedral); September 17, 2009 (Basilica); September 18, 2009 (San Francisco Church).

Pilgrim Shelters

Pilgrim shelters will be made available from September 16 -19, 2009 at the following sites: [1] Sta. Cruz Elementary School; [2] McMariano Elementary School; [3] Jose Rizal Elementary School; [4] Abcede Elementary School; and [5] Naga City Civic Center.

Fiesta Services: iShare

The fiesta services with the iShare plan of the Civicom will focus on the following: S-ecurity; H-ealth; A-assistance to Pilgrims through shelters; R-adio assistance; E-mergency services including medical personnels.

Volunteers for Ina

The volunteers for Ina (VFI) will assist the committees in the carrying out of their duties and services during the Penafrancia festivities.

Pilgrim Information Centers

The pilgrim information centers will be stationed in the religious zones and plazas. The volunteers for Ina coming from the schools will be staff for the centers under the committee on media and promotion.

TV and Radio Coverage of Traslacion and Fluvial

The traslacion mass will be relayed live nationwide and overseas via satellite through the National Broadcasting Network (NBN). Regional TV networks and radio stations will also provide coverage during the traslacion and fluvial. The traslacion and fluvial mass will be in English.

Penafrancia Hymn and Mass Songs

The new mass in the Marian setting will be sung during the Penafrancia masses this year. New songs have been composed for the major parts of the mass. Service songs will be same.

IV. CHAPEL (Religious Sites)

Plaza Miguel

The plaza Fr. Miguel Robles de Covarubbias wil be blessed on September 11, 2009 during the feast of the Divino Rostro. The completion of stage is expected for September 2010.

Religious Centers or Zones

In order to ensure the prayerful atmosphere in the areas of devotion, the religious centers or zones have been created, that is, these areas are off limits to vendors and motorists (no vehicular traffic and parking). The following areas have been declared as religious zones: [1] Naga Cathedral, from September 11-19, 2009; [2] Penafrancia Shrine, September 11, 2009; [3] Basilica, September 19-21,2009. Priests participating at the UBC 50 are requested to use Sta. Cruz St. and enter the tercentenary gate at the minor seminary.

Religious Center Marshalls

Religious zone marshalls shall ensure and maintain the order and atmosphere of religious zones or centers. They shall be under the volunteers for Ina (VFI).

Harubay Para Ki Ina asin Para ki Hesus

On September 1, 2009 a motorcade around Naga City from the Cathedral to Basilica will be initiated by the Apostleship of Prayer (AP) to launch September as the pilgrimage month in Naga City. There will simultaneous ringing of bells in all parish churches of Naga City and letting go of balloons. Assembly will be at 7am at the Cathedral and will end with a mass at 11:30 at the Basilica.

Socio-Cultural Events

There will be a nightly cultural show at Plaza Quezon from 7:00-8:30 pm that will be participated in by schools. The show will have a Marian theme. One of the highlights of the socio-cultural events will be the Dolot ki Ina, an offering of gifts for poor September 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm Nine floats depicting the history of devotion will accompany the participants of tinagba. At the end of the tinagba will be the voyadores festival. This event will end at the Cathedral with a mass.
